iOS 18 Beta: How to Customize Your iPhone’s Control Center in the Newly Released Public Beta?

| Updated on July 25, 2024

Following the announcement of the software at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, Apple released the public beta for iOS 18 on July 15.

Apple stated that the new update will bring new features to the iPhone, such as the ability to lock or hide apps and customize the lock screen and Control Center. Apple is also bringing a Control Center called Open Apps, which will allow you to customize all these features.

Open App is a pre-built shortcut that lets users open any app and create new controls for the control center that aren’t available in the Controls library. Here’s how you can use it!

To use the Open app for your lock screen:

  • Head to Settings >> Wallpaper.
  • Tap the lock screen on the left.
  • Tap the minus (-) sign next to the control you want to remove from the screen.
  • Press the plus (+) sign, and then tap Open app >> Choose.
  • Click on the app you want to create a shortcut for, and you are done.

To use the Open app for your Control Center:

  • Swipe down to open the Control Center.
  • Tap the plus (+) sign, then click on Add a control.
  • Tap Open app >> Choose.
  • Click on the app you want to create a control for.
  • Tap the space around the shortcut menu and press and hold the new control to move it where you want it.
  • Tap a blank space in the control center or lock your screen, and you are done.

If you wish to try out this update, avoid using your primary device, as the update is buggy and risk-prone.

iOS 18 Beta is not the final version of the update; thus, there will be more features to explore when the software is released. Although Apple said that it would release iOS 18 in the fall, the exact date has not been confirmed yet.
