Apple has Released iOS 18 Public Beta for iPhone, macOS, and More: Here’s What’s New in the Update

| Updated on July 17, 2024

On Monday, Apple released a preview version of iOS 18 for the public. The iOS 18 public preview is a beta version of the software that will launch this fall (September) alongside new iPhones.

Apple said that Apple Intelligence will be released in the beta version. However, it is not available in the initial public beta but will be available for testing later this summer, before the official launch of iOS. This AI update will include ChatGPT integration, Siri advances, and image generation.

For now, the public beta doesn’t include artificial intelligence but involves some notable updates. These updates include support for RCS messaging, customization options for icons and widgets, a new layout for the Photos app, a customizable Control Center, and dark mode icons.

Users can now add bold or italics to the Message app, react to messages with emojis, send messages via satellites, tap two iPhones to transfer money, and generate transcripts from calls or recordings.

Apple has also included password management features in the recent update. Furthermore, the Siri animation now takes up the entire iPhone screen.

Most of these features have been available for Android users for ages, but after a long wait, Apple is taking a great leap and opening doors for greater visual communication and software updates.

The iOS 18 public beta is now available to download through the Apple Beta Software Program at beta.apple.com. If you want to download the iOS 18 public betas, you must ensure your device runs the latest software, released in 2018 or later.
