SpaceX Starlink provides high-speed internet in the most rural places and even in the middle of the ocean.
Thus, recognizing its powers, the US Navy’s Naval Information Warfare Systems Command (NAVWAR) has installed Starlink and Kymeta terminals on the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72).
This installation is equipped with Sailor Edge Afloat and Ashore, also known as SEA2, which uses low-orbit satellites to deliver high-speed internet access to the sailors and ships.
On Tuesday, the US military revealed the photos that showed them installing the Starlink and Kymeta terminals aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln.
As per the recent press release, the SEA2 has been fully operational and is improving maritime life at sea by providing secure and stable internet access. It has undoubtedly increased the sailor’s morale and productivity while at sea.
This move allowed the sailors to enjoy improved military cooperation with stable internet access on the board. One notable example of SEA2’s impact was the Superbowl, where the carrier was able to broadcast the live stream of the game, allowing over 800 sailors to enjoy their time.
The US Navy also announced that they are currently on their way to employ the SEA2 across every Navy ship, planning to extend its benefits to a wide range of naval personnel and operations.
Rob Wolborsky, Chief Engineer at the Naval Information Warfare Systems Command (NAVWAR), said:
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime transformation for the warfighter, and we are pressing to deliver it to the fleet as fast and aggressively as possible. We are also focusing on getting the maximum value from this capability in parallel with delivering it.”
