In less than two weeks, Sony is going to release a PC VR adapter, allowing its PlayStation VR2 virtual reality headset to work on PC and letting the users Steam VR games like Half-Life: Alyx.
However, ahead of the release, Sony has dropped a PSVR2 Steam app on Valve’s digital distribution store, sharing more insights on PSVR2 compatibility on Steam.
According to the listing on Steam, users must use the app for the initial setup to play Steam VR games on PSVR2. Users can use the app to update the firmware on PSVR2 hardware, adjust settings, and create a gaming space for the device via the SteamVR dashboard.
However, the company recommends that users use a gaming PC equipped with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060, an AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT, or a newer GPU, such as the RTX 40 series.
PlayStation VR2 Sense technology includes eye tracking and 3D audio. It also includes highly intuitive controls with haptic feedback and finger touch detection.
Although using the headset on a PC will limit features such as eye-tracking, adaptive triggers, and headset feedback, users will be able to access the 110-degree field of view, finger touch detention, and 4K resolution.
The app will be released on August 6, just a day before the adapter release, priced at $60, and will be available through select retailers and direct.playstation.com.
PSVR 2 is now on sale at Amazon for $350, a full 37% discount from the MSRP.
Although there hasn’t been any official announcement on the price cut from Sony, people speculate that it is related to headset gaming functionality in PCs.
According to various media outlets, the price of the PlayStation VR2 will drop, and you will be able to get the best deals before the release. So, the interested users must stay on the lookout.
