Sonos Delays Two Product Launches Until it Fixes the Botched Updates

| Updated on August 9, 2024

Yesterday, in the company’s third-quarter earnings call, Sonos revealed that the company earned excellent revenues, exceeding the company’s expectations. However, its success was downgraded by the rollout of the newly redesigned app.

Following the buggy app, Sonos CEO Patrick Spence revealed that the two new products scheduled for later this year will be delayed until they fix the major issues in the Sonos ecosystem.

One of the two products is Sonos’ next flagship soundbar, codenamed Lasso. These two products were reported to be ready to ship in Q4.

Spence said, “I will not rest until we’re in a position where we’ve addressed the issues and have customers raving about Sonos again.”

Spence added, “While our app setback is regrettable, it is one chapter in our over twenty years of delighting customers. I speak for everyone at Sonos when I say that our number-one priority is to make this right and ensure that the next chapter is even better than the previous ones.”

He remained adamant about overhauling the app and its underlying infrastructure for the company’s future. However, he acknowledges that the project was rushed. He said, “With the app, my push for speed backfired.”

Apart from breaking things, the buggy app also removed various features, like the ability to edit a queue, set a sleep timer, or manage music on local networks. It also became sluggish and unresponsive, which was never the case for the wireless music system

Later, Sonos apologized for the botched updates on forums like Reddit. It wasn’t until late July that Spence addressed the issue publicly and apologized to the customers through a letter.

Sonos is turning to some experts for fixing the app and the major issues. Reports say that customers can expect promotional savings in the coming weeks, as Sonos plans to thank their customers for sticking with the company in hard times.
