Microsoft New AI Computers Struggle With Game Compatibility

| Updated on September 5, 2024

Microsoft recently launched a new line of Windows PCs with AI capabilities that offer fast performance, all-day battery life, and other impressive perks.

However, according to a recent report from the Wall Street Journal, these PCs struggle when it comes to gaming.

These Copilot + PCs are equipped with Arm-based Qualcomm Snapdragon chips that merge the CPU, GPU, and a Neural Processing Unit. Because of using the Arm chips, Microsoft is now facing problems running popular PC games designed for x86 chip architecture.

These new PCs require a translation layer to run the most popular games like League of Legends and Fortnite, which leads to glitches and performance issues in games with less significant graphic requirements.

However, as over 15 percent of PC laptop users are gamers, Microsoft users are frustrated with the

Although Microsoft designed Prism to deal with the issue, the equivalent of Rosetta 2 on Macs, it didn’t work well, and only half of them were able to run without any bugs or glitches.

This problem with the PCs was highlighted way back in June, saying that the prominent games would not launch.

Microsoft said in reply that the Copilot + PCs won’t be able to run the demanding graphics requirements. So, the people looking for a quality gaming experience must resort to the better alternatives out there.

Analysts predict the issue will be resolved over time with the anticipated launch of Intel’s AI-powered chips later this year. These models are expected to reclaim market share by prioritizing performance and compatibility.
