Recently, GoPro announced two new action cameras, a Hero Black13 and a smaller GoPro Hero. Hero Black13 is expected to bring more upgrades for professional users, including a new magnetic mount, GPS, better batteries, swappable lenses and ND filters with auto-detection, and more.
Although the Hero Black 13 does not have a vast difference from the Hero Black 12, I recommend the users don’t get their hopes high.
GoPro improved the battery, promising a 10% larger overall capacity and better power efficiency that runs in “all weather conditions.”
The Hero13 Black can also shoot in Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG), recording a wider color gamut at 10-bit and Rec. 2100 color space. It can also capture up to 400 frames per second at 720p as well as 5.3K at 120 frames per second and 900p at 360 frames per second.
The company also updated the mounting system with a “snap and go” magnetic latch mount, adding on to the previous two mounting methods.
It uses WiFi 6 for up to 40% faster wireless transfers, more customizable audio tuning, integrated GPS, and changes to the user interface to offer a smoother operation.
GoPro has also updated the lens mod system, offering three options along with a new set of ND filters, including the Ultra Wide, macro lens, and anamorphic lens. These lenses are compatible with HyperSmooth stabilization and are scratch- and water-resistant.
The macro lens features a manual focus ring to offer focus peaking. Moreover, the anamorphic supports 21:9 and 16:9 aspect ratios and internal de-squeeze to offer classic anamorphic lens flare and soft corners.
The ND filters also communicate with the device and adjust metering accordingly. It also allows the users to adjust the shutter speed down for motion blur.
The Hero 13 Black will cost $399 and is available for pre-order. It will be released on September 10.
