Google Wallet has finally introduced some new features to make it a go-to solution for users.
With the rising requests for digital IDs, Google launched the ability to save select state-issued digital IDs to Wallet last year. Now, soon the company will start beta testing digital ID that works at TSA checkpoints in almost half the country, including states like New York, California, Florida, Texas, and Illinois.
This feature will give users a chance to create and store a digital ID with a U.S. passport, saving them time at airports or checkpoints.
To create the digital ID using the passport:
For now, Google advises users to keep their physical IDs, as the technology is still in its early stages, and it is by no means a replacement for the physical IDs.
Google also said that it’s working with partners to allow users to use the digital IDs for various purposes, like car rentals, account recovery, and identity verification.
Google also announced some other updates for travelers and commuters, like notifications about pass updates. If the assigned seat on your boarding pass changes, the app will notify you. You can also access the passes from the web at wallet.google.com
There is also an addition of prepaid commuter benefit cards in the Google Wallet that is starting with Edenred and HealthEquity.
It is said that in a few months, Iowa, New Mexico, and Ohio will also join the list of places where residents can store and create their digital IDs and driver licenses in Google Wallet.
