From late Saturday evening to early Sunday, the Google Search app kept crashing when users tried to put in their queries. Although Google quickly fixed the issues in the middle of the night, thousands of user complaints flooded the social media forums by then.
Google also acknowledged the “service disruption” at 23:07 PT, saying “There’s an ongoing issue with serving in Google Search that’s affecting a large number of users searching on the Google app on Android. We’re working on identifying the root cause. The next update will be within 12 hours.”
The issue began at around 11 p.m. Pacific Time (0600 GMT), and Google said the issue was fully resolved at 4:11 AM ET.
When users tried to open the Google app via the home screen icon, it resulted in a crash, though it loaded the queries briefly and showed you the past searches before crashing.
Following that, over 7,000 problem reports were received by downdetector.com. Users posted screenshots on social media showing the error message “Google keeps stopping” on their phones.
However, it was reported that the other Google services and Google Search on other platforms were seemingly not affected by the service issue, which can be a workaround for the users.
Although Google Search has become stable, the company is still working on a fix.
For the users who are still experiencing an issue, the company advises clearing the cache and the Google app data on their devices. If you are required to browse urgently, try opening Google through the browsers like Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.
