Google’s New Pixel Buds Pro 2, the First Earbuds Built for Gemini AI: Here’s What You Need to Know

| Updated on August 21, 2024

On Tuesday, at the Made by Google Event, Google announced the second generation of earbuds, the Pixel Buds Pro 2. Priced at an increased rate of $229, these are the first earbuds built for Gemini AI with major updates.

For the overall look, the Pixel Buds Pro 2 looks similar to the original Pixel Buds Pro, but these are 27% smaller and lighter with 1.5 grams of weight shaved off. There is also a “twist to adjust stabilizer” to keep the earbuds in place.

The buds have a Tensor A1 chip and Google AI for audio processing. This chip delivers active noise cancellation that blocks twice as much noise as the previous version.

There is also a slight dash of Google’s Gemini AI on the Pixel Buds Pro 2 that allows you to converse with AI with a simple, “Hey Google, let’s talk live.”

For sound quality, the buds have 11mm drivers for “powerful bass” and “smooth treble,” along with spatial audio with head tracking.

The company has also made improvements in call quality by employing  Clear Calling to reduce environmental noise. It also supports conversation detection that will pause your music when your voice is detected.

The buds also come with a Find My Devices network, automatic device switching with other Pixel gadgets, Bluetooth LE audio, automatic pausing, and a wireless charging case.

Speaking of charging, the battery life of the buds can reach eight hours (with ANC enabled) or up to 30 hours if you count the case battery.

The Pixel Buds 2 Pro will be available in Porcelain (tan), Hazel (grey), Wintergreen (green), and Peony (pink). It uses Bluetooth 5.4 and is rated IP54 against dust and water.

Pre-orders Google’s Pixel Buds Pro 2 at $229 on the Google Store, and it will be shipped by September 26.
