Google Photos will Detect AI generated images

These days, every second person uses an AI image generator to create or edit images to bring profound creativity into the photos. With this trend, it can often be difficult to identify which image is AI-generated or which is genuine.

However, a recent report says that Google Photos will soon be able to solve this pressing problem.

According to Android Authority, which performed a recent APK teardown of Google Photos, Google is preparing to display information that would help identify AI images.

They found clues regarding this feature in the layout files of Google Photos v7.3. The layout files had the following XML code:

<TextView android:id=”@id/ai_info” />

<TextView android:id=”@id/credit” />

<TextView android:id=”@id/digital_source_type” />

It found mainly three string codes: “@id/ai_info”, “@id/credit”, and “@id/digital_source_type”.

The “@id/credit” ID resource will likely display the photo’s credit tag. For example, if you generate images through Gemini AI, the image will have a “Made with Google AI” credit tag, or when you use Magic Editor, the image shows “AI-Generated with Google.”

The “@id/digital_source_type” ID resource will likely refer to the Digital Source Type field, indicating the source from where the image was created.

There is nothing certain about the “@id/ai_info” ID resource; it could either identify the AI or model that generated the image.

You will be able to find all this information in the image details section. This way, the IPTC metadata will be able to identify an AI-generated image.

However, this feature is not available on Google Photos yet, but considering the hype around AI-generated images, it will be live soon. So, till then, stay tuned for more information!
