According to anonymous sources cited by Bloomberg, Apple is planning to upgrade its next-generation Mac models for increased performance and memory with M4 chips.
Hence, the Mac M4 series will come with a minimum of 16GB RAM, double the current minimum of 8GB RAM in M3 models.
This information comes from reports that say Apple has begun developer test logs for four new Mac models labeled “16,1,” “16,2,” “16,3,” and “16,10” to ensure compatibility with third-party applications.
Three of these models have 10 CPU cores and 10 GPU cores, while the last has eight CPU and eight GPU cores. However, they are expected to feature either 16GB or 32GB of RAM.
Although when the MacBook Pro M3 launched, Apple was defending the RAM specification, saying that the Apple silicon MacBook is “probably analogous to 16GB on other systems,” this decision could be due to the release of Apple Intelligence.
Apple has previously mentioned that Apple Intelligence requires more processing power and thus more RAM, which could be the reason why it’s revamping the latest Mac lineup.
However, regardless of these speculations, this update will be advantageous for professionals and casual users alike, as RAM upgrades are hard to come by on Apple silicone PCs.
Nonetheless, if the price is reasonable, there is nothing to lose on the new upgrades. For more updates, stay tuned to the launch event this September.
