Apple’s Risky Decisions Might Threaten the iPhone 16 Pro

| Updated on August 13, 2024

Apple is launching the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro next month with major upgrades and a modern suite of AI tools, but will it be able to keep the sales stable?

At the recent quarterly earnings call, the company reported that in the third quarter, the sales dropped from $39.67 billion in 2023 to $39.30 billion in 2024. Tim Cook heavily pushed the generative AI that will bring a cascade of sales following its integration into recent smartphones.

Users who want to experience AI smartphones within the Apple ecosystem will have to purchase the new iPhone due to the high requirements. Apple is expecting that AI demand will follow after the release of the iPhone 16.

However, various experts have speculated that this move will not be enough to lift Apple out of a slump.

Mark Gurman, the tech journalist, reports that “the four upcoming iPhone smartphones and Apple may not be as bullish on their sales potential as some may hope.”

The only major update is a new suite of Apple Intelligence capabilities in all iPhone 16 models. However, it is reported it will also be available in the iPhone 15 Pro versions.

If you have an iPhone 12 or older, these are some nice upgrades. However, “these features alone will not be a reason to upgrade.”

Furthermore, Apple is late to bring AI into smartphones, as Google and Samsung have already released their AI-driven smartphones. Next week, Google is revealing the Pixel 9 family and the next generation of AI tools, which means Apple’s iOS will be two major versions behind Android OS.

Moreover, Apple Intelligence is not arriving with the iPhone 16 and will be released with an iOS update in October 2024. It is not planning to release the full set of tools until the first quarter of 2025.

Although Tim Cook is planning to grow sales with AI, it will be difficult to come out of the self-imposed harm with the constant sales.
