According to a report by The Information, Apple is gearing up for foldable iPhones and plans to release them as early as 2026. Currently, the company is working on a ‘clamshell’ design iPhone, similar to the Galaxy Z Flip series.
The news has reported that the tech giant has been preparing two folding iPhone prototypes since February. It has already finalized the design and is currently working on reducing the crease that appears while folding the phone.
This move indicates the company’s desire to focus on the compact form factor while maintaining the iconic iPhone aesthetic within foldable technology.
According to previous reports by Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the company is also said to be working on a 20.3-inch foldable MacBook.
Mark Gurman from Bloomberg has also suggested that it is also exploring a dual-screen, foldable MacBook/iPad hybrid. As per other reports, there is speculation about a 20-inch foldable hybrid device that could be launched in 2027.
In addition to the foldable, Apple is planning to upgrade the camera of at least one of its models, along with a slimmer profile, for its upcoming iPhones. This update will allow users to control the amount of light entering the camera, giving an adjustable depth of field in photos.
However, there is no certainty that the first foldable product by Apple will be the flip phone, as there are speculations that it could be a larger device, such as a foldable iPad or MacBook.
Ultimately, we would have to wait for the next update on the supposed Flip iPhones that are rumored to be released in 2026.
