Apple’s New Mac Mini 4 Redesign May Ditch the USB-A Port

| Updated on September 3, 2024

After a decade, Apple’s Mac Mini is finally getting a new design overhaul, but that may come at the cost of some compromises.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who writes in his Power On newsletter, Apple’s next Mac Mini may ditch the USB-A ports.

Last month, Gurman revealed that Apple’s Mac Mini will be the smallest yet most powerful to date and will hit the store shelves by the end of 2024, though the other upgrades remain unclear.

In the newsletter, he explained that Apple plans to save space by cutting the two USB-A ports found on the current Mac mini. However, if you purchase the Mac Mini M4 Pro, you won’t be at much loss for ports.

The M4 Pro will have a whopping five USB-C ports (two in the front and three in the back), an Ethernet port, an HDMI port, and a headphone jack. Adding to that, the new Mac Mini will also have an internal power supply.

Gurman said that the suppliers in China are ready to ship the new ‌Mac mini‌ models with the M4 chip in early September, and the M4 Pro will start shipping in October.

Apple also plans to launch the M4 MacBook Pro and iMac in the coming months, which means we will be able to see Apple use the same chip generation across all Mac devices.

However, as these are all rumors, we are not sure how much of a difference we will see in the Mac Mini’s rumored redesign. Thus, for more information regarding the design, stay tuned to find out!
